How do we do art?

The ASSIGNMENT is to make some art that shows not only how we make art, but how the "thing" that we are making (and it's "thing-ness") determines how we make decisions. This will be a very challenging assignment. As you make the art and as a VITAL part of this assignment try to document the decisions and ideas as you come upon them. The purpose of this project is more about the "how-ness" of the art work rather than the "about-ness" -- which is usually the case. Notice that as we gain proficiency, we can create effortless and with (what seems) little fore-thought art works. The story goes that Picasso was sitting talking to a friend and suddenly he jumped up and painted the "Don Quixote" in about 10 minutes. If you study that painting, you can see how few brush strokes there are. The philosopher Kessler called such "spontaneous bursts of genius" as "booms" where the person has been preparing for the moment along a very twisting path of creativity over a long time and not necessarily as an instantaeous moment. That is, all that they had been doing up to that point was in some (probably sub-conscious) way preparation for the BOOM. Critique!!! Show Talk Ask (or not) The critique will be more difficult as well. You will need to trim down your DOCUMENTATION to about 15 minutes (max).
