How do we do art?

We can: The big three: draw paint sculpt But, we can also: Use a computer Throw a pot Take a photo Make a collage Yes, but can't we also "perform"? Act Sing Play a musical instrument Recite poetry, a story, a ... Danse ? Experiment: Make some art. At least three (at least one should be a "major" or "important" work). Document: Write up a document about one of your works. Describe technique and composition as you would to a fellow artist -- assume that it might have to be translated into a different language. Think of yourself as an architect and you are trying to tell Mandrake the Martian (via Space Radio -- video/audio circuit is on the fritz!) how to re-create your work on Mars for the 9th bi-millenial "Best of Earth" art exhibit. Unfortunately, when you sprained your pinky trying to open a can of Fizzy-Wizzy cola (non-carbonated, non-sweetend, non-caffinated) you ended up having to go to the emergency room and due to a terrible misteak you were put in suspended animation and marked "Do Not Open until Festivus, 2299". This means that your documentation must suffice to help to create (re-create?) the art. If your work is a performance piece make sure you write a script. NOTE: When we "document" a work, we describe the "what-ness" and "how-ness" of our work. But. (like all good magicians) We do NOT EXPLAIN OUR WORK -- ie, describe the "why-ness" of our work. That's what art historians, currators, art critics and reporters do. Critique!!! Show Talk Ask (or not)
